HP MFP M528 Solid State SSD Replacement For Failed Hard Drive

I have a HP MFP M528 enterprise printer in my office and have been plauged by hard drive failures. Usually this results in random erros when printing or even at idle, it can throw fatal errors such as 98.00.00 and 49.38.xx ( 49.38.07 , 49.38.0C ) and force a printer reboot or even firmware reload.

To run the latest firmware on this printer you need a SED ( Self encrypting hard drive ) which is a good way for HP to keep you locked into their ecosystem of buying hard drives with short life spans that are prone to failure. The OEM HP part number that they sell is L41606-011 for the hard drive. Everywhere I have read online says that these are the only drives that work with this system, and to not even bother trying a solid state drive.

Well, luckily I know of at least one solid state drive model that works! The Samsung 870 EVO 2.5" SSD Part# MZ-77E500B/AM . This SSD is compatible with whatever self encrypting protocol or algorithm the MFP M528 with the latest firmware as of May 28th 2024 requires, and its a lot cheaper than HP's OEM hard drive. Go a head and upgrade your printer so you never have to deal with this headache again. :)
